Known for his “abundant energy, powerful fingers, big sound, and natural musicality,” (“Gramophone”), pianist Christopher Atzinger presents a unique concert inspired by the relationship between American impressionist painter Childe Hassam and the music of 19th-century American composer John Knowles Paine, considered one of the first important American composers. Paine and Hassam spent summers together at Appledore Island off the coast of Maine, home of a famed salon where artists of all types convened to share inspiration and ideas. Atzinger’s program will also include work by composers who influenced (or were influenced by) Paine, such as Robert Schumann and John Alden Carpenter. Space is limited, and advance registration is recommended. $6 Museum members, $10 Sunday, September 10, 3 p.m.
