Position Summary
The Sacramento Metro Chamber is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and creative Director of Marketing & Communications to lead the organization's marketing, communications, brand management, and storytelling efforts.
This position is responsible for developing and executing integrated marketing and communications strategies that advance the Chamber's mission, advocacy priorities, membership growth, events, programs, sponsorship objectives, and regional influence. The Director serves as the steward of the Chamber's brand and voice, ensuring consistent messaging, meaningful engagement, and positive brand awareness across all organizational touchpoints.
The Director provides strategic communications counsel to organizational leadership and partners across departments to support key initiatives while leading and developing the Chamber's Marketing & Communications team and oversees all communications assets, platforms, campaigns, and marketing initiatives and supports communications and marketing efforts for the Sacramento Metro Foundation and Metro PAC.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the Chamber Leadership Team, contributing to organizational strategy, planning, culture, and performance objectives.
- Provide strategic marketing and communications counsel to the President & CEO and senior leadership.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align communications, marketing, and branding efforts with organizational priorities and goals.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen organizational visibility, member value, community impact, and regional influence through strategic communications and storytelling.
- Utilize audience insights, engagement data, and market trends to inform organizational decision-making and communications strategies.
Brand Strategy & Organizational Communications
- Lead the strategic direction and execution of the Chamber's marketing, communications, brand management, and organizational storytelling efforts.
- Serve as steward of the Sacramento Metro Chamber, Sacramento Metro Foundation, and Metro PAC brands, ensuring consistency across all communications and platforms.
- Develop and implement integrated communications strategies that support membership growth, retention, engagement, sponsorship development, advocacy initiatives, events, and programs.
- Oversee organizational messaging, positioning, content development, and audience engagement initiatives.
- Support executive communications, including speeches, presentations, public statements, reports, and CEO messaging.
- Manage media relations and identify opportunities for earned media, thought leadership, award recognition, speaking engagements, and public visibility.
- Support organizational reputation management and strategic communications efforts as needed.
Marketing, Content & Digital Strategy
- Lead the Chamber's digital marketing and content strategy across social media, email communications, websites, video, digital advertising, and emerging platforms.
- Oversee the development and execution of content calendars, marketing campaigns, and audience engagement initiatives.
- Ensure the creation of compelling and consistent content that advances organizational priorities and strengthens audience engagement.
- Oversee website strategy, maintenance, content updates, microsites, and digital user experience.
- Manage the Chamber's digital assets, brand libraries, photography, video resources, and marketing collateral.
- Stay informed on emerging communications trends, technologies, and best practices to strengthen organizational effectiveness.
Organizational Support & Collaboration
- Partner with Membership, Programs, Policy, Foundation, and Executive teams to develop marketing and communications strategies that support organizational initiatives and goals.
- Provide strategic brand and communications guidance for Chamber events, advocacy efforts, Foundation programs, member engagement activities, and Signature Programs.
- Ensure organizational initiatives, events, and campaigns align with established brand standards, messaging priorities, and strategic objectives.
- Support efforts to increase participation, engagement, sponsorship visibility, and community awareness across organizational activities.
Team Leadership & Department Management
- Lead, mentor, supervise, and develop the Marketing & Communications team, including the Graphic Designer and Marketing & Communications Coordinator and manage our public relations contract.
- Foster a collaborative, innovative, and accountable team culture focused on excellence and continuous improvement.
- Manage departmental resources, project timelines, and workload prioritization to ensure effective execution of organizational objectives.
- Support hiring, onboarding, training, and professional development of team members.
Analytics, Budget & Vendor Management
- Track, analyze, and report on communications and marketing performance metrics, audience engagement, campaign effectiveness, website traffic, and digital growth.
- Provide regular reporting, insights, and recommendations to improve organizational performance and audience engagement.
- Develop, manage departmental budgets, and resource allocation.
- Oversee relationships with external vendors, consultants, agencies, photographers, videographers, printers, and other communications partners.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with organizational expectations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of five to seven years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, public relations, brand management, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated marketing and communications strategies.
- Experience leading teams, managing projects, and coordinating cross-functional initiatives.
- Experience supporting executive leadership communications and organizational positioning preferred.
- Experience working within chambers of commerce, nonprofit organizations, associations, public affairs, economic development, or membership-based organizations preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Exceptional written, verbal, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Strong strategic thinking and organizational leadership capabilities.
- Ability to translate organizational priorities into effective marketing and communications initiatives.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Experience with CRM systems, email marketing platforms, website content management systems, social media management tools, analytics platforms, and design applications.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with members, sponsors, community leaders, media partners, vendors, and stakeholders.
- High attention to detail, professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion.
Compensation & Benefits
The Sacramento Metro Chamber provides competitive compensation and benefits package including annual PTO, sick leave in accordance with applicable law, thirteen paid holidays, employer-paid Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance (base plan), 401(k), monthly cell phone allowance, and paid parking. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This position operates in a professional office environment. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required to support events, programs, and organizational activities. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms, use finger movements, handle, or feel.
