Investor Relations Manager

Investor Relations Manager

Reports To: Director of Membership & Investor Relations

Department: Membership

Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Location: Sacramento, CA (On-Site)

Position Summary

The Metro Chamber of Commerce is seeking a driven, relationship-focused Investor Relations Manager to grow the Chamber’s member base across a six-county territory. This is a newly created role on the Membership team, joining an existing Investor Relations Manager, Member Services Manager, and Director of Membership & Investor Relations.

The Investor Relations Manager is responsible for prospecting, pitching, and closing new business memberships while building lasting relationships across the Sacramento region’s business community. This role covers all six counties — Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Yolo, Sutter, and Yuba — and shares territory with the existing sales rep based on first CRM contact.

Membership is the lifeblood of the Metro Chamber — it funds the programs, events, and advocacy that drive the region's business community forward. The Investor Relations Manager plays a central role in that mission, serving as the Chamber's primary connector to businesses across the six-county region and ensuring the organization continues to grow its reach and impact

Key Responsibilities

Prospecting & Pipeline Development

Independently prospect and build a pipeline of new member candidates across all six counties.

Research and identify target businesses, including new businesses, growing companies, and lapsed members.

Attend membership events, signature Chamber events, and networking opportunities to generate leads and engage prospects.

Log all outreach, meetings, proposals, and activity in the CRM system from day one.

Sales & Closing

Deliver compelling membership pitches tailored to each prospect’s business needs and goals.

Manage the full sales cycle from first contact through close, including follow-up, proposal, and dues collection.

Meet or exceed individual goal in new member dues each month.

Coordinate with the Director of Membership & Investor Relations on prospect strategy, pipeline health, and deal support.

Member Onboarding & Retention Support

Facilitate warm handoffs of new members to the Retention/Success Manager following close.

Assist in retention efforts by contacting past due members as needed by the department.

Follow a structured outreach cadence to build and sustain relationships with members through their first two years, escalating retention risks as needed.

CRM & Reporting

Maintain complete and accurate CRM records for all prospects, outreach activity, and pipeline stages.

Document meaningful engagement to maintain prospect ownership.

Provide regular pipeline updates and progress reports to the Director of Membership & Investor Relations.

Additional Duties & Chamber Events

The Investor Relations Manager is expected to support the broader Chamber team during signature events and all-hands moments. This includes staffing and supporting Chamber events that may fall outside of typical day-to-day responsibilities, such as the Annual Dinner, Mixers, and other marquee programs. All team members are expected to show up, pitch in, and represent the Chamber with professionalism regardless of role during these occasions.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in B2B sales, membership sales, business development, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals.
  • Strong prospecting skills — comfortable making cold calls, attending events, and building a pipeline from scratch.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a consultative, relationship-first sales approach.
  • Experience working with CRM systems; ability to maintain disciplined logging and documentation habits.
  • Self-motivated and able to manage time and territory independently.
  • Comfortable engaging with business owners, executives, and community leaders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and standard business software.
  • Willingness to attend early morning, evening, and weekend events as needed.

Preferred Attributes

  • Service-oriented and highly responsive.
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
  • Resourceful, initiative-taking, and able to work independently.
  • Comfortable interacting with business and community leaders.
  • Familiarity with the Sacramento region’s business community.
  • Experience selling chamber, association, or membership-based products.
  • Highly organized with strong pipeline management discipline.
  • Energetic, competitive, and motivated by both individual achievement and team goals.
