Position Summary
The Public Policy Coordinator provides entry-level administrative research, and program support for the Sacramento Metro Chamber’s public policy, advocacy, and government relations activities at the local, regional, state, and federal levels.
Working closely with the policy team, the coordinator assists with legislative tracking, policy research, committee coordination, advocacy activities, member communications, and major Chamber policy programs. The position is well suited for an organized and detail-oriented individual interested in developing experience in public policy, government affairs, advocacy, and regional economic development.
Key Responsibilities
Policy Research & Legislative Tracking
- Monitor local, state, and federal legislative and regulatory developments and compile relevant updates for the Public Policy team.
- Assist with tracking legislation, hearings, votes, deadlines, and other policy developments affecting the business community in alignment with the Metro Chambers priorities.
- Conduct basic research on policy and economic issues and assist with preparing issue summaries, background materials, research memos, talking points, and policy position letters.
- Maintain organized legislative, policy, and research files and tracking systems.
Advocacy & Government Relations Support
- Assist with scheduling, coordinating, and supporting meetings with elected officials, legislative staff, government agencies, and community partners.
- Prepare briefing materials, meeting packets, talking points, and other materials for advocacy meetings and policy activities.
- Attend policy meetings and public events as assigned and provide notes or summaries to the Public Policy team.
- Maintain government relations contact lists and assist with follow-up communications and action items.
Committee & Member Engagement
- Provide administrative support for assigned Chamber policy committees and task forces and serve as point of contact for information and coordination.
- Coordinate meeting notices, agendas, materials, speakers, RSVPs, and follow-up communications.
- Maintain committee rosters, attendance records, meeting files, and related meeting minutes.
- Assist with gathering member feedback and responding to routine policy-related inquiries.
Administrative, Communications & Program Support
- Provide administrative support to the Public Policy Department, including scheduling, correspondence, meeting coordination, document preparation, and maintaining department files and calendars.
- Assist with drafting and distributing policy updates, advocacy communications, member notices, and other department communications.
- Support the planning and execution of Chamber policy programs and events, including Cap-to-Cap, Study Mission, policy roundtables, legislative briefings, and other advocacy activities.
- Specifically, support meeting scheduling, steering committee coordination, and general advocacy efforts for Cap-to-Cap program in coordination with the policy team.
- Collaborate with Communications, Membership, Events, and other Chamber teams to coordinate program coordination, materials, registrations, and other activities supporting the Chamber’s policy and advocacy efforts.
Metro PAC Support
- Provide administrative and logistical support for Metro PAC meetings, events, and communications.
- Assist with meeting preparation, invitations, RSVPs, event coordination, and related materials.
- Support candidate and elected official engagement activities as directed by the Public Policy team.
- Maintain PAC records, contact lists, meeting materials, and event information.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, public administration, communications, business, economics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Internship, volunteer, student government, legislative, nonprofit, association, or community engagement experience is preferred.
- Interest in public policy, government affairs, advocacy, and regional economic development is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a collaborative environment.
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional in-office environment. Some evening and weekend hours may be required to support events, programs, and stakeholder engagement activities.
