SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce is proud to lead a delegation of regional change-makers and visionaries to Boston, Massachusetts, as part of the 25th Annual Study Mission scheduled for October 6-10, 2025. Presented by Kaiser Permanente, this immersive, weeklong program invites business leaders, community champions, and elected officials to explore one of America’s most innovative and historically rich cities.

As a signature program of the Metro Chamber, Study Mission brings a regional delegation together to explore urban innovation and cross-sector collaboration in other leading cities to identify strategic solutions that can inform and inspire our own Capital Region.

“Study Mission is focused on identifying actionable ideas and innovative concepts to advance economic prosperity and strategic planning that will benefit our region,” said Robert Heidt, President & CEO of the Sacramento Metro Chamber. “Boston offers an exceptional case study in urban resilience, innovation, and economic planning. Our carefully curated program includes compelling presentations, conversations, cultural experiences, and guided tours. We urge visionaries and changemakers to join our motivated delegation to help pave a path for a more vibrant and competitive Capital Region.”

Boston was selected for 2025 in part as it is home to a highly educated workforce, globally renowned universities, thriving life sciences and tech sectors, and a rich cultural fabric that powers both tourism and community pride. Also, strategic investments in housing, transportation, and climate adaptation reflect Boston’s long-term approach to future growth.

Boston’s economic development strengths span several notable growth industries, making it a region where innovation thrives across sectors, creating a highly attractive environment for businesses and individuals. With a legacy of civic leadership, neighborhood identity, and cross-sector collaboration.

The 2025 Study Mission Program Chair is Shirley Kwan Smith of Golden 1 Credit Union who is supported by Honorary Chair West Sacramento Councilmember Verna Sulpizio Hull.

“Boston, like Sacramento, is more than just a Capital City. It is a hub of cultural pride, community vibrancy, and innovative government,” said Kwan Smith. “From its charming cobblestone streets to its world-class museums and universities, Boston offers a unique blend of past and present with compelling lessons in what is possible when we align around a shared vision. Join me and the Sacramento Metro Chamber for the 25th Annual Study Mission as we explore revitalized historic districts, celebrate cultural diversity, and immerse ourselves in learning about how Boston gets things done – bringing home inspiration to our own beloved Capital Region.”

Past Study Mission cities include visits to St. Louis in 2024, Toronto in 2023, San Diego in 2022, Indianapolis in 2019, Brooklyn in 2018 and Chicago in 2015.
